Millions of people have learned to scuba dive and gone on to discover the wonders of the aquatic world through this course.

To enroll in the Open Water Diver course (or Junior Open Water Diver course), you must be 10 years old or older. You need adequate swimming skills and need to be in good physical health. No prior experience with scuba diving is required.

There are two types of classes currently being offered. One is TRADITIONAL and offers several shorter pool sessions spanning a 3 or 4 weekends, followed by check out dives,that are completed at the springs in Florida. (normally Blue grotto Dive Resort)

The second option, called EXECUTIVE, is more of a resort style course, and depends on the students comfort in the water.

With the executive course all of the pool sessions and open water are done over a 3 day weekend. Arrive Thursday evening, Training from 8-5 Friday and Saturday. Then finish up the final open water dives on Sunday before heading home.

While many people enjoy the ease of completing their certification in one weekend, this is not the best option for every diver, as it is very compact, fast paced, and physically demanding.

ACADEMIC

The PADI Open Water Diver course consists of three main phases:

  • Knowledge Development ( online, independent study or in a classroom) to understand basic principles of scuba diving
  • Confined Water Dives to learn basic scuba skills
  • Open Water Dives to use your skills and explore!

You may be able to get college credit for the Open Water Diver course.

Equipment

n the PADI Open Water Diver course, you learn to use basic scuba gear, including a mask, snorkel, fins, regulator, buoyancy control device and a tank. The equipment you wear varies, depending upon whether you’re diving in tropical, temperate or cold water.
